Capsize and Crew Overboard Safety Clinic

9:00 AM  to 3:00 PM at the club – All members invited!
 
The Clinic will present vital information and demonstrations for small boat and cruising sailors.
It will be run by US SAILING instructors Stu Gilfillen and Steve Maddox, and John Rousmaniere, seamanship and safety expert and author of The Annapolis Book of Seamanship.
This is a great opportunity to sharpen your safety preparedness and skills.

0830 - 0900   Arrival
0900 - 0930   Drowning: causes and precautions
                        Hypothermia: recognition and best practices
                        Heavy weather: avoiding capsize and crew overboard
0930 - 1015   Self-rescue by small boats and crew overbooard rescue by cruisers
                        Personal experiences: challenges faced by small boat and cruising sailors and Race Patrol
1015 - 1030   Break
1030 - 1200   Communications techniques for Race Patrol and sailors
                        Entrapment issues and concerns
                        Capsize and crew overboard rescue by Race Patrol
1200 - 12:45  Lunch (please bring your own lunch and drink)
1245 - 1330   On-water demos near the pier: rescue of small boat sailors and cruising crew overboard
1330 - 1430   Practice rescues near the pier by Lightning, Thistle, 420 and cruising sailors and Race Patrol
1430 - 1500   Debriefing and closing
